Abstract

978,886. Filling containers; packaging machines. FILLING MACHINES Ltd., and A. WILSON. Jan. 17, 1960 [Oct. 17, 1959], No. 35207/59. Headings B8A and B8C. Powder from an upper floor falls down opening 5 formed in bedplate 3 suspended from the floor, is agitated by agitator 30 in hopper 6, and is discharged therefrom by screw 7. The powder is discharged past plate 11 pivoted at 36 and falls down nozzel 10 into container 2. Screw 7 is carried by a shaft which is screw-threaded to the driving shaft 14 so that it may be easily detached. The casing 9 of the screw 7 is provided with holes 27 covered by filter 28 so that air which is squeezed out of the powder as it is discharged may escape at 29. Plate 11 is biased against the outlet of the screw casing by weight 26 which acts through linkage 24, 21, 36. Nozzle 10 is clamped to container 2 at 12, the clamping being effected by the handle shown which simultaneously operates valve 13 to open the nozzle. The bed plate 3 is adapted to be fixed to any upper structure such as a ceiling having an aperture, and is provided at 34 with screws so that the conveyer screw and its casing may be removed from the bed plate 3.
