Abstract

Apparatus for drying flowable or pasty masses, powdered or granular material 22 comprises a housing 1 divided by a floor 2 into an upper compartment 1a housing a filter basket 3 above an opening 2a in the floor, and a lower compartment 1b housing a container 4 for the material and air heating means (not shown). The filter is connected in air-tight manner by hydraulic cylinders 11 to the open upper end of the container and an air flow is created through the apparatus by suction pumps (not shown) in the upper compartment exhausting the atmosphere therein to induce an air current into the lower compartment, through the heating means, into contact with the material and through the filter to atmosphere. The flow of heated air is downwardly induced into the material by pipes 4e. An agitating, stirring or comminuting blade 29 driven by a pressure oil turbine 30 is mounted in the container 4. In a modification the filter 3 comprises several filter bags.
