Abstract

977,827. Photo-multiplier circuits. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. Feb. 9, 1961 [Feb. 9, 1960], No. 4920/61. Heading G1A. [Also in Division H3] The gain of an electron multiplier tube is controlled by switching circuits which, when the output current exceeds a certain value, operate to strap a number of the dynodes and the anode to a point of reduced potential. As shown in Fig. 1, a first rise in output current results in relays B14 S1 operating to connect dynodes D10, D11 and anode A to point 10 on the potential divider network r 0 .... r 11 . Further increases in output current result in other relay circuits operating to strap more dynodes to the anode, and to connect these strapped electrodes to lower potential points on the potential divider chain r o .... r 11 . A modified circuit, Fig. 2 (not shown) includes a differential relay which makes one pair of contacts when the current through it exceeds 100 microamps and another pair when the current through it is less than 10 microamps.
