A safety device for the prevention of explosions in gas conduits comprises a casing 1 and a series of discs 2 each having a circular groove 3 in the face. Each disc except the end ones is provided with diametrically opposite through parts which intersect the grooves. The end discs are each provided with only one such part and the discs are clamped together to provide passages 4 and 5 such that gas entering the body at 6 passes into the passage 4, flows round the grooves and leaves through the passage 5. One cross-sectional dimension of the groove is less than the link width of the explosion wave of the gas. In a modification, the grooves are formed on the periphery of the discs. Two or more such stacks of discs may be arranged in a single housing.
