Abstract

926,118. Valves. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. March 12, 1962 [March 14, 1961], No. 9428/62. Class 135. A slide valve having a movable valve closure member 16 is provided with sealing rings 14 engaging both sides. The sealing ring is made in one piece and its cross-section comprises a rectangular part 20 having a V-shaped groove 21 at its inner periphery communicating through ports 18 with the fluid flow passage 2, a semi-circular part 22 engaging the valve member 16 and an annular connecting lip 23 which extends from the outer periphery which is clamped between the housing parts 1, 7. The semicircular part 22 is preferably arranged centrally of the rectangular port and the V- shaped groove extends at least beyond 'the inner edge of the part 22 and preferably beyond the centre of this part whereby fluid pressure in the groove forces the part 22 into contact with the valve member. Suitable dimensions for the ring are given as b = 10 millimetres, c = 9 millimetres, d = 18 millimetres, e = 15 millimetres, f = 6 millimetres and g = 16 millimetres.
