Abstract

946,514. Valves. GROVE VALVE & REGULATOR CO. April 27, 1962 [May 1, 1961], No. 16132/62. Heading F2V. A sliding gate valve is provided with a floating seat housed in an annular recess in one or each side of the gate and comprising a pair of seat rings 36, 37 which define between them an annular groove housing a resilient seal ring 40, the seal ring, in closed position of the valve, being in sealing contact with the valve body surrounding the flow passage 12a, the seat rings 36, 37 being secured together, e.g. by screws 52. The seal ring is positively retained in the groove by lipped portions 38, 39 of the rings 36, 37. The outer periphery of the seat is sealed in the recess by a ring 42 and springs 44 urge the seat outwardly of the gate. As shown, the valve body comprises a generally oval spacing member 20 secured between two plate members 12 which define the aligned flow passages 12a. Dowels 18 serve to prevent radial distortion of the oval member 20 under the fluid pressure.
