Abstract

977, 537. Reactor pressure vessels. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. May 25, 1961 [May 27, 1960], No. 18976/61. Heading G6C. The vertical cylindrical pressure vessel of a nuclear reactor is provided with a circular cover member at its upper surfaces having apertures to permit access to the reactor interior. As shown, the circular steel plate 4, closes the upper surfaces of the pressure vessel 2 and is seated against the steel ring 23 secured to vessel 2 by the keys 24, 25. Plate 4 is held to ring 23 by the bolts 44, 45 which in the absence of pressure in 2 bear the weight of 4. The boron-steel blocks 12-17 provide a neutron shield for the plate and the channels 5-11 permit manipulation of fuel and control rods. The keys 24, 25 are remotely adjusted by compressed air operated piston and cylinders 28, 29, 34, 35. Sealing between 23 and 2 is effected by the thin sheet metal 42 rim welded to both. A similar sealing 43 is secured between 4 and 23.
