Abstract

977,351. Valves. J. H. DE FREES. May 28, 1962 [Oct. 30, 1961], No. 20495/62. Heading F2V. An outlet valve for a compartmented tanker vehicle has a rotatably adjustable outlet fitting 24 and a number of columnar supports 29 mounting a hubbed spider 30 which locates and guides a valve stem 42 carrying a valve head co-operating with a seat 24b. The valve member comprises a disc 43 carrying a resilient sealing ring 45. The seat is formed on the outlet fitting 24 which is clamped by bolts 29b and loose lugs 37 against a dished well 28 welded to the tank 27. A screen mesh cap 31 and a screen mesh wall 32 fit respectively over the spider and round the ring of columnar supports 29. A number of such valves on the vehicle are actuated manually from a control position through a link 26 and levers 47, 49 on a shaft 48a, the lever 47 having a shaped head 47a on which the valve stem 42a rides. The outlet fitting is grooved at 24 so that it may fracture readily in the event of collision and avoid possible damage to the valve which would result in the contents being discharged.
