Abstract

The invention comprises 2-diazopyroles of the formula <FORM:0977326/C1/1> wherein X, Y and Z are the same or different and represent hydrogen, substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbon groups, hydroxy, alkoxy, amino, nitro, carboxyl or acetoxy groups, or halogen atoms, or wherein Y and Z together represent a benzenoid ring and X represents a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbon radical, a hydroxy, alkoxy, amino, nitro, carboxyl or acetoxy group, or a halogen atom. The above compounds are prepared either by treating a pyrrole of the formula: <FORM:0977326/C1/2> with excess nitrous acid or by treating a pyrrole of the formula: <FORM:0977326/C1/3> with a nitrosyl derivative of an inorganic acid or with a mixture of an alkyl nitrite and an alkali alkoxide in alcoholic solution to give an intermediate 2-nitrosopyrrole, which is then further reacted with nitrous acid or nitric oxide.
