[Also in Division H1] A web of material 1 is printed in a screenstencilling apparatus through the interaction of a doctor roller 2 on a screen 11 the roller being forced into contact with the screen by magnetic forces deriving from the repulsive effect of opposing like poles. In the embodiment of Fig. 1 poles at the ends of the roller 2 are opposed by similar poles at the lower ends of magnets 3 and 4. The roller is mounted on the magnets through guides and pins 6, 5 such that it may move in the direction of the repulsive forces. In a further embodiment the guides and pins are omitted, a plurality of alternate magnets 3 and 4 being arranged along the length of the roller each pole 7, Fig. 3, of each magnet 3 or 4 being shaped so as to partially enclose the circumferential peripheral surface of the roller. This roller incorporates an arrangement of annular poles of suitable polarity for repulsive reaction with the poles 7. Such an arrangement may be achieved by either embedding annular permanent magnets in the surface layer material of the roller or by using so-called magnetic rubber appropriately magnetized. In a further embodiment the magnets 3 and 4 are replaced by electromagnets.
