In an elevated railway system the track is carried on beams 10, so that a supporting surface for two abutting beams 10 at the head of a stanchion 13 is arranged on an arm 14, which is cranked in the longitudinal direction of the beams so that the span between two successive stanchions may be varied in comparison with the length of the beams. Prefabricated beams 10 of standardized length L are supported to form a monorail track by ordinary stanchions 11 and stanchions 13, the stanchions 13 being arranged so that the track is able to cross a road 12 which has a width greater than the length L. To further increase the distance between successive stanchions the cranked arms of the stanchions may extend in opposite directions along the track. The stanchion 15 in Fig. 4 has two cranked arms 16, which are bifurcated to support a dual track, intermediate beam members 17 being provided between the aligned ends of the beams 10. The intermediate beam members 17 may be constructed as stays between the arms 16. The arms 14 of the starschions 13 may also be bifurcated to support a dual track.
