Abstract
899,626. Mono-rail switch tongues. ALWEGFORSCHUNG G.m.b.H. Sept. 1, 1958 [Aug. 30, 1957; Nov. 2, 1957], No. 27954/58. Addition to 827,969. Class 104 (2). A switch for a beam-shaped monorail track structure adapted to be straddled by a vehicle with the vehicle supporting wheels running on top of the beam and with vehicle side wheels bearing on tracks on the side faces of the beam, in which the switch structure is so constructed as to allow movement of constituent members thereof relatively to one another when the switch is moved from one operative position to another operative position, is characterized by an inner longitudinally-disposed box girder 1 and an outer box girder 2 and means such as ribs 3 preventing relative transverse movement of the material of the outer girder having a lower modulus of elasticity than that of the inner. Surfaces 8 and 9 supported by ribs 4 on the girder 2 form tracks for the wheels of the vehicle. The material of the surfaces has a lower modulus of elasticity than the material of the outer girder. The surfaces may be made of wood, rubber, synthetic resin such as hardened polyurethane, the inner girder may be made of sheet steel and aluminium for the outer girder. To allow for thermal expansion the girders are mounted for relative longitudinal movement.
