Abstract
930,435. Elevated railways. SAFEGETRANSPORT. Oct. 17, 1961 [July 20, 1961], No. 37249/61. Class 104 (2). [Also in Group XXXII] A hollow beam 1 constituting the track of an overhead railway, and formed with a continuous longitudinal slot in its floor permitting the passage of vehicle suspension members, comprises, at longitudinally spaced intervals on each side of the slot transverse vertical metal diaphragm plates 7, transverse metal L-plates 11 held against the diaphragm plates by means which allows adjustment of the L-plates in all directions in their vertical plane, the flange portions 12 of the L-plates extending horizontally above the diaphragm plates to support longitudinally extending runways 15 for wheeled carriages. The runways 15 are preferably formed with a down-turned flange 21 on the inner side and an up-turned flange 22 on the outer side to stiffen' the runways. The L-plates 11 are each held on a diaphragm plate 7 by three bolts 14 which pass through horizontally elongated holes 8 in the plates 7 and through vertically elongated holes 13 in the plates 11. The holes 8, 13 allow adjustment of the runways 15, which are secured to the plates 11 by nuts 18 on bolt shanks 16 which depend from the runways 15 and pass through holes in the flanges 12. Rubber pads 19, 20 support the runways 15 and prevent metal to metal contact with the flanges 12. A vertical guideway 23 for wheels 37 in the railway vehicle is spaced above and outwardly of each runway 15, and has flanges 24, 25 provided with holes which fit over bolts 27, 28 embedded in a concrete filling 3 in the beam 1, or screwed into tapped tubular members 29, which, in turn, are embedded in the filling 3. Nuts 30, 31, 32, 33 held by locking washers 34, 35 allow adjustment of the guideways 23 in a horizontal plane and rubber pads may be employed to prevent metal to metal contact. An external casing for the beam 1 may be provided with a sound damping inner lining (not shown).
