Abstract

1291620 Overhead tracks M BARTHALON 30 June 1970 [18 July 1969] 31521/70 Heading B7L A track assembly for vehicles adapted to be supported therefrom by a suction effect, air cushion or magnetic effect comprises a beam supported above the ground and having suspended therefrom, by adjustable screws 13, a track, the track consisting of elements 1 to which the vehicle 15 is attracted by suction, and guide members 2 and a vehicle slide-block 16 is provided with lips 18 by which the vehicle is supported on track lips 5 when at rest. The beam is formed of box members 6, 6 having skeletal side walls 9. In the embodiment of Fig. 4 the supporting beam is formed by I- beams 105 and spacer rods 106. The track is supported on the beams by shims 112 and spaced laterally by bolts 108. At rest the vehicle is supported by lips 117 bearing on flanges 104. In a further embodiment a vehicle is supported by an air cushion on a track having horizontal reaction surfaces and a central inverted U- section providing guide surfaces as in Fig. 1. The track is supported on a pair of I-beams spaced by tie-rods arranged horizontally and at 45 degrees with respect thereto. In the embodiment of Fig. 10, the support beam comprises an elongate concrete structure 305 reinforced at spaced intervals by members 311. The track comprises a sheet steel reaction member 301 and a pair of guide members 302 mounted by means of shims on inwardly directed portions of member 301. Bolts 312 provide further means of adjusting the position of members 302. The vehicle 315 obtains current by means of collectors 319 engaging supply means 321. Control and signal cables 322 are also suspended from the structure 305. In a further embodiment, not shown, the concrete structure supports the track by means of bolts which are adjustable to position it both vertically and horizontally. Fig. 19 shows a track assembly for use with a vehicle 501 supported by a magnetic effect. Magnetic circuits 502 and induction coils 503 react with a magnetic rail 505. Hooks 507 support the vehicle in the event of current failure. The track 508 is supported adjustably by means of bolts 510 from a beam 509.
