Abstract
1408012 Railway systems MESSERSCHMITT - BOLKOW - BLOHM GmbH 12 Dec 1972 [15 Jan 1972] 57242/72 Heading B7L A railway system comprises vehicles 1 supported on a central beam 2 and suspended and guided by electromagnets 15, 18 respectively which co-operate with conductive rails 14, 17, the beam 2 at a switch having no moving parts tapering along one edge 8 and entering the space between a main track beam 4 and a branch track beam 3 which latter beams 3 and 4 have oblique end faces 7, 9. Supports 20, 21 alongside the switch have sets of electromagnets 22, 24 therealong which are adapted to co-operate with fixed rails 23, 25 on the vehicles, there being additional sets of electromagnets 26 along the end faces 7 and 9. A vehicle travelling from the left and continuing on the main track will be supported by magnets 22 and rail 23, as contact is lost between magnets 15 and rail 14, due to an increase in excitation of magnets 22 on support 21. A vehicle will be switched to the branch track by an increase in excitation of magnets 22 on support 20. The vehicles may be driven by a linear motor or power supplied thereto through live rails.
