Abstract

1341265 Railway systems including magnetically supported vehicles MESSERSCHMITTBOLKOW BLOHM GmbH 30 April 1971 [5 May 1970] 12420/71 Heading B7L A railway system comprises vehicles 3 provided at each side with a projection 2 supporting an electromagnet 1 which when energized acts with a rail 4 to suspend the vehicle therefrom, the projection 2 also having mounted thereon a guide magnet 6 which acts with a rib 7 of the rail and there being provided on U- shaped rail supports 19 convex contact members 29, 30 over which the vehicle can slide if the supporting magnetic field collapses or the rails are not symmetrical. At a switch an additional support magnet 22 is provided which is arranged alongside the track and acts with a part 23 of the projection 2, the distance 3 between a vehicle and magnet 22 being greater than the distance 25 between projection 2 and members 29. A vehicle is guided at a switch to one or other of tracks 16 or 32 by energizing only the guide magnet and/or the additional magnet on that side of the vehicle corresponding to the track to be followed, slide rails 21 are provided at a switch to support that side of a vehicle which is not supported by either the magnet 1 or magnet 22. With a train of vehicles the magnets 1 thereof are provided at their ends with fingers which overlap without contact with the fingers of an adjoining vehicle.
