Abstract

1473904 Suspension railway systems DEMAG AG 19 Aug 1974 [24 Aug 1973] 36378/74 Heading B7L A suspension railway system includes a rail of substantially I-shaped cross-section whose web 1 is disposed vertically such that the flanges 2 each provide a horizontal surface for support wheels and vertical surfaces for guide wheels of vehicles travelling along the rail, at least one flange having a cavity therein extending along the rail and opening to the exterior of the flange through a slot 8 which also extends along the rail and has a width less than that of the cavity, stationary fixtures of the system, e.g. isolators or activator plates 13, being held on the rail by fittings engaging in the cavity. The flanges may be identical and arranged in mirror-image relationship, the rail either being made in one-piece with hollow flanges formed as shown in Fig. 1, or being made from separate web and flange parts welded or otherwise secured together, in which case each flange is E-shaped in cross-section as shown in Fig. 2 so as to have two cavities each opening through a narrowed slot defined by thickened portions at the free edges of the arms 3, 6 of the E. The fittings may be substantially U-shaped resilient members 9 engaging a rail cavity and slot as shown and held in place by their resilience or by expansion screws 11.
