Abstract

1,111,109. Elevated railways; permanent way. COCKSEDGE & CO. Ltd. 3 March, 1967 [17 March, 1966] No. 11740/66. Heading B7L. A monorail comprises a plurality of track sections 30, Fig. 1, joined end-to-end and supported on columns 31. Each section 30 comprises an inverted U-shaped guide rail 11, fabricated from sheet metal, the longitudinal edges of the side walls 14 of which are welded to the upper surface 20 of a sheet metal support member 10, carried by columns 31. The longitudinal edges of the member 10 support, through spaced angle cleats 16, L-shaped strut metal members 12 whose upper surfaces 13 serve as tracks for vertically-disposed vehicle wheels. The outer surfaces of the side walls 14 form guide surfaces for horizontally-disposed vehicle guide wheels. Each track section may comprise a plurality of support members joined end-to-end and a plurality of guide rails joined end-to-end instead of the single members 10 and 11 shown.
