Abstract
976,750. Aerials. THE GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. May 30, 1962 [May 30, 1961], No. 19567/61. Heading H4A. A wideband directional aerial assembly having a constant beam-width comprises a horn radiator 2 situated on the axis (but not at the focus 4) of a parabolic reflector 1, and a dispersive cellular lens 5 also positioned on the reflector axis. As shown, the assembly is housed within a rubber-lined tubular casing 6 closed at one end by the reflector 1 and at the other end by a fibre glass sheet 8. The beamwidth of the horn radiator 2 varies with frequency over the operating band (9000 mc/s.Π1800 mc/s.) but this variation in beam-width is compensated for by the changes in curvature of the wave fronts of the beam produced by the reflector and the lens, the arrangement being such that at the lower frequency end of the band said changes substantially cancel one another out. The assembly may also be used as a receiving aerial.
