Abstract

A binder composition comprises 30 to 60 parts of aromatic, thermoplastic hydrocarbon resin produced by the polymerization of coal tar distillate fractions or unsaturated petroleum fractions, and 30 to 60 parts of viscous plasticizing oil selected from aromatic oil, naphthenic oil and mixtures thereof. Compositions finding application as paving may be formed from 85 to 98 parts of mineral aggregate, 0 to 25 parts of pigment and 2 to 10 parts of binder composition. The aggregate may be granite, limestone, gravel, sand, cinders, mineral dust or fillers. Optional ingredients are natural or synthetic rubber, aromatic hydrocarbon solvents, microcrystalline wax, fillers and resins such as polystyrene or polyethylene. The products find application as laminates, paving material, curbing, culverts, drainage tiles, and for making lanes, islands or zones.
