Abstract

A bitumen compsn. for use as binder in road-surfacing materials comprises a mixt. of hard bitumen (e.g. B45 or B60) and an additive (e.g. 'Prosable'). The wt. ratio of additive to bitumen is pref. 1:10 to 1:3, the additive esp. being used in an amt. of 12-15% of the total wt. of the compsn. A prefd. road-making material contains 65 pbw gravel, 24 pbw sand, 10 pbw limestone, 1 pbw asbestos and 7.4-7.8 pbw of the bitumen compsn. the latter esp. being a mixt. of 9 pbw B45 and 1 pbw additive. The compsns. are readily applied and give surfaces with a high resistance to deformation and wear.
