Abstract

[Also in Divisions B6 and E1] Slabs for lining dams, waterways and the like are made of an asphaltic composition, interspaced at their edges and interconnected by a flexible material i.e. fabric, woven mat or netting, which may be made of wire, metal strips or plastics. The flexible material may form a continuous backing for the slabs. Alternatively said material may be connected to similar material providing internal or external reinforcement for the slabs. The asphaltic composition is a mixture of bitumen with a filler such as sand, stone fines, and/or gravel, the bitumen being mineral oil residue, a component thereof, coal tar and/or coal-tar pitch. The volume of bitumen may be greater than that of the filler. The slabs may be square or rectangular and disposed in the manner of a masonry bond. A layer of sand-tight material may be placed beneath said flexible material. To facilitate drainage the slabs may be perforated or contain passages formed by water-permeable asphaltic composition.
