Abstract

Bituminous compsns with great durability in the presence of water (esp. useful for road surfacing and lining dikes, canals, etc.) are produced by contacting mineral aggregate particles at 180-350 degrees C with a petroleum-, coal- or wood-based material which is liquid at the contact temp. (esp. propane bitumen) or which forms a liquid at this temp. (esp. sawdust), and mixing the resulting particles with a bituminous binder at an appropriate temp. (pref. =180 degrees C). Pref. >=8% of the vol. of the product is made up of cavities.
