1423146 Slip-resisting coating COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) LTD 12 Sept 1973 [12 Sept 1972] 42223/72 Heading B2E A sheet or 'block having a slip-resisting surface comprises hard stone or chippings embedded in and proud of the surface of a cellular plastics material having a stiffness or apparent modulus of elasticity of more than 70 MN/m<SP>2</SP> Suitable cellular materials include thermosetting plastics, e.g. polyurethane and epoxy resin, and thermoplastic materials e.g. polyvinyl chloride. Preferably the cellular plastics materials contain bituminous materials, especially those derived from coal including coal tar pitch and coal digests. The stones or chippings may be granite, flint, calcined flint or calcined bauxite or quartz or calcined colliery spoil. The sheets or blocks are produced by foaming and partially curing a foamable plastics mixture and placing the stones or chippings on the surface of the partially cured cellular material and completing the cure. Alternatively a fluid foamable plastics mixture may be poured on a layer of hard stones or chippings and the plastics mixture foamed and cured. The process may be carried out continuously on a conveyor. The products may be used for flooring, decking and roofing ing and partially curing a foamable plastics materials may be formed by (1) decomposition or reaction of a foaming agent to produce a gas, which foaming agent may be one or more compounds which may react together to form the cured plastics material, or (2) by entraining therein a gas, or (3) by the volatilisation of a volatile blowing agent.
