Abstract

753,528. Floors. SEMTEX, Ltd. Oct. 11, 1954 [Nov. 26, 1953.], No. 32796/53. Class 20(4) In the production of jointless floors a concrete supporting floor is provided with a coating of resinous or quasi-resinous material by first applying to the supporting floor a priming layer containing an aqueous rubber dispersion and afterwards applying, while the priming layer is still wet, a top layer containing a hydraulic cement and an aqueous emulsion of resinous or quasi-resinous material. Preferably the priming layer also contains a hydraulic element and possibly a proportion of filling material such as sand or crushed stone. The rubber dispersion may contain curing agents, accelerators, anti-oxidants or a stabilizer and preferably contains 35-60 per cent by weight of solids. The hydraulic cement may be Portland or aluminous cement or a mixture of the two. Suitable aqueous emulsions of resinous or quasi-resinous materials are those based on asphalt or bitumen, a natural or synthetic resin, e. g. polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene, coumaroneindene and coumarone-styrene resins, a natural or synthetic rubber, a solid grade of aromatic petroleum residue, a blend of polyvinyl acetate with pitch, a residual pitch of the kind obtainable from the distillation of animal and vegetable oils and fats, or a blend of such a pitch with a vinyl resin or with a rubber or other elastomeric material. The proportion of hydraulic cement in the top layer is varied as necessary and mineral aggregates, filler and numeral pigments can be incorporated therein as desired. In an example a priming mixture containing 20 lbs Portland cement and 25 lbs fine washed sand mixed with 7 lbs. stabilized rubber latex and 2 1bs. water was prepared. This mixture was brushed firmly over the surface of the concrete at a rate of about ¥ lb. of mixture per square yard of concrete. The compound to be applied as top layer had a composition: bitumen emulsion 16 lb. ; Portland cement 14 lb. ; iron oxide pigment 1À5 lb. ; granite chippings 48 lb. ; sharp sand 24 1b. This composition was applied about ten minutes after the priming layer had been applied.
