Abstract
976,496. Crimping pliers. AMP Inc. Oct. 14, 1963 [Nov.19, 1962], No. 40365/63. Heading B4W. Pliers for crimping a connector 112 to a cable 130 having a central conductor 128 and a coaxial braided conductor 126, comprise two complementary groups of dies 152, 142, 60 ; 154, 144, 80 relatively movable towards each other in rectilinear manner, there being provided guide members adapted to slidingly receive therebetween an outer ferrule portion 118 of the connector, the guide members presenting flat guide surfaces equally spaced from and parallel to the axis of the connector. The connector comprises an outer ferrule 118 with opposed ports 120, 121 and a core of insu- .lating material 124 provided with opposed ports 120, 121 and a core of insulating material 124 provided with opposed ports aligned with those of the outer ferrule, an inner ferrule 122 being provided within the insulating material. Guide flanges 68, 76 are provided on each side of the indentor die 60 and flanges 92, 98 on each side of the indentor die 80. The connector is positioned in the tool by locating the die 80 in the crimping port 120. Progressive closure of the dies results in the round noses of the guide flanges 68, 70 guiding the connector into the recess in the die 80. The other pairs of dies 142, 144; 152, 154 simultaneously operate on ferrules 116, 114 respectively, to complete the crimping operation. In a modification an existing tool is provided with an adapter 180 having flange members 184, 186 which provide a sliding contact between existing flanges integral with one of the indentor jaws. Specification 924,920 is referred to.
