Abstract
810,881. Making electrical components; jointing by stamping. AMP Inc. Sept. 24, 1956 [Sept. 23, 1955], No. 29140/56. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). [Also in Group XXXVI] A terminal 10 including a ferrule 14 and having a sleeve 16 fitted over the ferrule is crimped on to a wire c, Fig. 3, by a double square crimp and in such a way that lateral lugs 36 are formed on the sleeve for locking engagment with an insulating sleeve 18 (see Group XXXVI). Fig. 10 shows a sleeve connector comprising inner and outer metal sleeves 60, 62 which are crimped on to wires inserted in opposite ends thereof to form lateral lugs as in the previous embodiment. Suitable dies for forming the crimps are shown in Fig. 12, each die comprising a pair of V-shaped members 30 separated by a spacer plate 36 and confined by end plates 38, the assembly being held together by screws 42. Each V-shaped member has flat surfaces 32 adjacent the sides of the V and the upper die has abutments 34 which prevent opposed surfaces 32 from contacting each other when the dies are closed together, thereby leaving a space for the extrusion of metal to form the lateral lugs at the same time as the V- shaped members form the square crimps.
