Abstract
1423702 Jointing by stamping; making electrical connections USS ENGS & CONSULTANTS Inc 6 March 1973 [16 March 1972] 10874/73 Headings B3Q and B3A Apparatus for simultaneously crimping connectors 112 around matching ends of conductors in two multiconductor cables C, the ends S, S<SP>1</SP> of each cable being staggered lengthwise of the cable, comprises a pair of co-operating dies 72, (98), Fig. 4, not shown, for each conductor, die retainers 50, (90) each having slots 52, 56 &c. and (92), (96) &c. extending transversely of the cable length and a die 72, (98) secured to each slot at a position longitudinally of the slot corresponding to the staggering of the conductor ends and means for moving the die retainers between an open, cable-receiving position and a closed, crimping position. The lower die retainer 50 is moved by a fluid-actuated piston and cylinder unit 22, preferably powered by a hand operated air pump. A lower housing (4). Fig. 1 (not shown), bolted to a table at each corner, includes upstanding lugs 28 interleaved with lugs 36 on an upper housing (34). A pin 44 is threaded through aligned holes in the lugs and is removed to allow the housing (34) to be pivoted about a similar pin 42 to receive the cable ends. Each cable is clamped to a respective guide trough (106), Fig. 8, not shown, by clamps (110). The dies 72, Fig. 5, include pins 80 which engage in grooves 114 in the connectors 112, Fig. 12. Dies (98) omit the pins. A further slot, 54, (94) in the die retainers houses an earth wire connector die 82, (100), Figs. 6 and 7, not shown.
