Abstract
Copolymers are made by polymerizing a mixture comprising one or more organic polysulphides with two or more HS-groups, one or more unsaturated monomers having one or two double bonds, and a peroxide or hydroperoxide present in at least stoichiometric proportions with respect to the HS-groups of the polysulphide. Also present in the mixture may be an activating agent, e.g. diphenyl guanidine. Monomers specified are methyl methacrylate, acrylic esters, styrene, acrylonitrile, and tetraethylene and polyethylene glycol dimethacrylates. The products can be filled with pigments, e.g. titanium dioxide, iron oxide, zinc oxide and carbon black, and can be used in the manufacture of shaped articles, coatings and adhesives.
