975,511. Protective cut-out arrangements; converting. KSM PRODUCTS Inc. Jan. 24, 1961 [Feb. 3, 1960 (2)], No. 2817/61. Headings H2F and H2K. An arrangement for the supply of D.C. for a welding process, e.g. stud welding, and including a transformer 10 and rectifiers 18, is protected against prolonged overloads by a relay 70 responsive to the rectifier output voltage and against short circuits by a relay 60 responsive to the rectifier output current, the relays causing the interruption of the supply with differing time delays. On the closure of main contacts 22 ... 26 the output voltage is sufficient for the relay 70 to open its contacts 72. When welding commences, the resulting drop in the output voltage permits the release of the relay and contacts 72 close to energize a time delay relay 40. This relay, after a predetermined time, closes its contacts 42 to energize a trip coil 20 and cause the opening of the contacts 22 ... 26. In the event of a short circuit, the relay 60 closes its contacts 62 to energize a time delay relay 30. The relay 30, after a short interval, closes its contacts 32 to energize the trip coil 20. In the event of overheating, a thermal switch disposed within the transformer closes contacts 52 to energize the trip coil 20.
