Abstract

883,660. Protective cut-out arrangements. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. April 15, 1958 [April 16, 1957], No. 12453/57. Class 38 (5). A protective arrangement, e.g. for A.C. traction circuits, has a distance relay 22 with an operating winding 22a energized in proportion to the current in the protected circuit 20 and a restraining winding 22b energized in proportion to the voltage of the protected circuit under the control of a transductor 23 having a control winding 23c energized by a current proportional to the current in the protected circuit after a time delay imposed by a time delay circuit. This delay circuit comprises a capacitor 29 and resistor 28 and is supplied from a current transformer 25 by means of a transactor 24 and rectifier 27. Under steady-state conditions the control winding 23c is effective to reduce the impedance of the main transductor winding 23a which is in series with the restraining winding 22b. A sudden rise in the current in the circuit 20 does not produce an immediate proportional increase in the winding 23c so that the relay has a higher impedance setting under fault conditions than under normal load conditions. The relay has a polarizing coil 22c.
