Abstract

An arrangement for permitting the delayed opening of a circuit-breaker having contacts 3, 4 and a normally energized release coil 5, on the failure of the main supply, comprises a battery 25 to maintain the energization of the coil for a period determined by a timing device 27. As shown the device 27 is a relay, which with the coil 5 is normally energized from the main supply through a transformer 19 and a rectifier 23. When supply failure occurs, a relay 28 releases causing its contacts 28a to interrupt the circuit for the relay 27. At the end of the timed period, the contacts 27a of the relay 27 open to interrupt the supply from the battery 25 to the coil 5 so that the circuit-breaker opens. The battery 25 is charged from the rectifier 23 under the control of a transductor 26 having its control winding in series with the coil 5. A push-button switch 7 when closed causes the relay 27 to be energized to complete the circuit for the coil 5 and the circuit-breaker can then be closed by a manual control 6. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown) the relay 28 may be omitted, the relay 27 being normally energized from a tertiary winding on the transformer 19.
