Abstract

876,787. Protective cut-out arrangements; arcing-preventing in switches. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. June 12, 1958 [June 15, 1957], No. 18827/58. Class 38 (5). In an arrangement in which a D.C. load 6 is supplied from an A.C. supply 1 through rectifiers connected in two paths such that the load current flows through one path during one half cycle and through the other path during the other half cycle, each path includes a circuitbreaking device 8, 9 and control means are provided which under overload conditions effect the opening of the devices 8, 9 in turn during the half cycles in which they do not carry current. The arrangement may be of the bi-phase type or of the bridge-connected type as shown in the Figure in which the limbs of the bridge are provided by rectifiers 2 . . . 5. The devices 8, 9 may be controlled by saturable chokes (not shown) which are so arranged that when the current through the rectifier 2 exceeds a predetermined value, the device 9 in the other path is opened and when the current through the rectifier 3 exceeds this value the device 8 is opened.
