Abstract

972,030. Control systems for A.C. loads. O. EVANS. (Robotron Corporation). Aug. 22, 1962, No. 32326/62. Heading H2H. [Also in Division H3l A switching circuit comprises a pair of semiconductor controlled rectifiers connected in inverse parallel relationship between a pair of A.C. supply terminals, first supply means for applying a trigger potential on to the gate of one rectifier, and a second supply means operable when that rectifier becomes non-conducting to supply a trigger potential to the gate of the other rectifier. As described, an A.C. supply is connected across lines 1, 2, and the next positive pulse on line 1 after closure of the switch 9 causes the rectifier 7 to conduct, so that the pulse is fed via transformer 4 to the output line A, B. At the termination of this pulse, the field in transformer 4 collapses and induces a pulse in winding 17 which switches on rectifier 13 at the same time as a positive pulse appears on line 2. Current therefore flows through the rectifier 13 and a reverse pulse appears at output A, B. When the next positive pulse appears on line 1, the cycle will repeat if switch 9 is still closed. If switch 9 is opened, no gate pulse appears on rectifier 7, and it does not conduct, and no trigger pulse is produced for rectifier 13. The switch 9 may be manual, mechanical, electric or may be an electronic circuit.
