Abstract

1398892 Protective arrangements MITSUBISHI DENKI KK 8 June 1972 26902/72 Heading H2K An over-current protective arrangement comprises a self-restoring current limiter 10, a relay R responsive to the voltage across the limiter, and a circuit-breaker 40, 50 controlled by the relay, the relay contacts 30 and tripping coil 50 being connected in an auxiliary power supply circuit. The current-limiter is of the kind in which an alkali metal, e.g. sodium or potassium or a mixture thereof, is vapourized by the heat produced by the over-current to provide resistance in the protected circuit, the metal condensing on cooling to render the limiter fully conducting. The relay contacts 30 may be normally open or normally closed depending on whether the coil 50 of the circuitbreaker is to be energized or de-energized to cause release of the circuit breaker contacts 40.
