Abstract
838,238. Protective arrangements. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. Sept. 20, 1957 [Sept. 27, 1956], No. 29707/57. Class 38 (5). [Also in Groups XXXV and XL (c)] An over-voltage or under-voltage protective relay circuit comprises an electromagnetic relay connected in series with an inversely connected crystal rectifier, the arrangement being such that the relay operates when the voltage across the rectifier reaches the Zener value. In the Figure the relay R is connected in series with a silicon Zener diode K across one arm of a potentiometer W1, W2, W3 connected to the voltage source. The potentiometer reduces the voltage to that required for the Zener diode and a selenium Se rectifier is connected in parallel with arm W2 to provide temperature compensation for the Zener diode. The relay may be provided with a contact for resetting the voltage applied to the circuit or for operating a signalling device and may be biased by means of a permanent premagnetization or by a current flowing through a separate winding so that a smaller current through the Zener diode will operate the relay.
