Abstract

975,293. Metal casks. FIRESTONE TIRE & RUBBER CO. Sept. 27, 1962 [Dec. 22, 1961], No. 36695/62. Heading B8D. A metal cask 10 comprises top and bottom end portions, termed end shells, 12 and 16, welded to a centre band 20, one end shell having a single-walled chime 14 welded to its exterior surface, the other end shell having an integral double-walled chime 18. The end shell 12 is apertured at 26 to accommodate a tap fitting 34 and an embossed sump 46, having an aperture 60 for a tap fitting is provided in the lower end shell. Flat rolling surfaces 48 are provided on the centre band and corrugations 50 for strengthening, corrugations 44 also being provided on the lower chime 18. Holes 32 are formed in the upper chime for draining purposes. Specification 741,559 is referred to.
