Abstract

894,007. Stackable drums. READS Ltd. Feb. 13, 1959 [Feb. 14, 1958; May 6, 1958], Nos. 4948/58 and 14488/58. Class 66. A metal drum of circular cross-section has tapered side wall 12, the angle of conicity being not more than 2 degrees and the internal diameter of the wider end being not more than ¢ inch greater than the external diameter of the narrower end. The drum may have seamed on end plates 14, 18, the end plate 18 having a pouring orifice 22, with closure 32, and carrying a handle 26. Details of diameters of the drum and conicity of the side walls are given. In a second embodiment, Fig. 1 comp. (not shown), the drum has a dished lid forming a tight fit in its wider end, while the lower and narrower end of the drum is seamed on, Fig. 2, so that the outer side of the seam is flush with the drum wall. A bead formed in the drum wall prevents adjacent drums from nesting too deeply before the lids are applied.
