Abstract

974,939. Crimping yarn; twist-tubes; heating arrangements. UNITED STATES RUBBER CO. June 15,1962 [Aug. 21, 1961], No. 23026/62. Headings D1D, D1F and D1W. Apparatus for texturing yarn comprises a circulating hot air oven, a fluid twisting nozzle adapted to twist yarn passing therethrough, and means for passing the yarn to be textured in a substantially straight line first through the oven and subsequently through the twister. The fluid nozzle described in Specification 974,940 may be used. As shown in Fig. 1 yarn travels at about 800- 900 feet/min from pirn 11 via pigtails 12 and 13, button tensioner 14, rubber covered roller 17 and steel roller 16-the latter possibly forming a pair of godets-, and pigtail 18 to oven 20. The oven comprises a series of chambers-one for each of a series of yarns-separated by hot air boxes 44 (Fig. 4). Hot air, from chamber 40 having a damper 41, Fig. 3 (not shown) passes via chamber 43 into boxes 44, thence through perforated plates 74 into the chambers on both sides. The air leaves the chambers through slots 48 of adjustable length and passes to ducts 49 and 50, thence either to electric resistance heaters and a pump, or direct to chamber 40. The front of the oven 20 is formed by insulation 46 with threading slots 71 for the yarns. The gas nozzle may have an air diffuser attached to the yarn inlet/gas exist end. A valve and pressure gauge may be provided for each gas nozzle to adjust individually the gas pressure therein in dependence on the directions on the initial pretwist, or, if desired, to impart unbalanced twist.
