Abstract

974,231. Self-propelled missiles. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. March 17, 1961 [March 23, 1960], No. 9849/61. Heading F3A. [Also in Divisions F1 and H1] A device for generating electrical energy, for use in the nose cone of a high velocity projectile or space vehicle, includes an electron-emissive body 41 of thorium oxide, and a body 42 of porous ceramic impregnated with ferric oxide and 1% aluminium oxide and 1% sodium or potassium oxide or nitrate which emits positive ions when heated. In use, the oppositely charged emitted particles are carried off in the air stream causing a charge differential to develop between the bodies and an electric current to pass through a load electrically connected between the bodies.
