[Also in Divisions G6 and H2] The control rod 7, Fig. 15, of a nuclear reactor is connected to a cylindrical member 109 integral with the lower end of which is a tubular bush 108 which, at the end of its travel when the member 109 is projected downwards, covers a tubular support 118 and this has the effect of damping the fall of the rod 7, the bush 108 having openings 119 and together with the support 118 constituting a dash-pot. In Fig. 15, the openings 119 are shown as increasing in size towards the lower end of the bush 108.
