Abstract

972,168. Partitions for buildings. R. A. POULAIN. July 20, 1962 [July 20, 1961; March 5, 1962], No. 28102/62. Heading E1V. A partition comprises mullions 1, Fig. 4, and transoms 2 to which panels 3 are secured by T-beading 16 which has flanges 19 covering the edges of adjacent panels, the T-beading having a double stem 17 which engages within a groove 20 formed in each face 14 of each mullion and transom, or engages over a ridge 26, Fig. 5, formed on said faces 14. The engagement between the T-beading and the groove 20 or ridge 26 may be frictional or the groove may be undercut or lipped to facilitate such engagement. The ridge 26 may be deformed by lateral projections 27 which co-operate with inwardly directed lips on the edges of the stem flanges of the T-beading. The T-beading may be made of elastic material. The sides of the mullions and transoms may have grooves 22, Fig. 4, to accommodate means 23, or 24 and 25 to connect the mullions and transoms. Alternatively rows of holes 28, Fig. 5, in the sides of the mullions and transoms enable a correspondingly perforated U-shaped connecting piece 29 to be employed as a junction member in conjunction with rivets 30. Rows of slots 34, Fig. 8, may be provided in the mullion to receive a bracket 50 which presents a downwardly tapered recess which can receive a correspondingly shaped formation on the end of a transom, or the slots 34 may receive a bracket 41, Fig. 10, which is adapted to support a transom formed as either a hollow section 46 or a wooden section 49, Fig. 11 (not shown). The partition is secured between floor and ceiling by screw jacks 10, Fig. 3, between the upper ends of mullions 1 and transverse members 9 at the ceiling.
