In an air-cooled engine, the connecting pipes 8 between a lubricant pump and a lubricant cooler 5 and/or between the cooler 5 and the passages leading to the engine lubrication points are located in the cooling air stream and are readily removable so as to be interchangeable with pipes of different superficial area. For engines operating in temperate climates the pipes 8 are smooth, unfinned tubes but for tropical climates they are replaced by finned tubes.
