Abstract

970,674. Vacuum scavengering machines. LACRE Ltd. Dec. 5, 1962 [Feb. 22, 1962], No. 6995/62. Heading E1G. The suction nozzle unit 3 of a road scavengering machine has a rear wall 8 carrying a rubber wearing portion 9 and a front wall 10 terminating at a distance above the ground at which the minimum effective suction effect can be obtained. Below the wall 10 is an arcuate plate 12 pivotally mounted on a frame 11 and riding on the debris to be swept, thus restricting the effective nozzle inlet to maintaining strong suction power. The plate 12 may be counterweighted (not shown) or moved by mechanical, hydraulic or pneumatic means controlled from the driver's cab. Alternatively a shutter may be mounted for sliding up and down movement in the nozzle unit. A rotating brush unit (not shown) may precede the nozzle unit, an hydraulic or other linkage system raising both units during transit of the machine.
