Abstract
847,709. Pneumatic refuse collectors. JOHNSTON BROS. (ENGINEERING) Ltd., and PINER, D. March 25, 1959 [March 27, 1958], No. 9898/58. Class 107 In a refuse collecting vehicle in which a suction nozzle and associated exhauster. are mounted on the vehicle and deliver refuse into a collecting. chamber, the nozzle mounting allows resilient yielding of the nozzle on encountering an obstruction, adjustment of the nozzle for various road cambers, vertical lifting of the nozzle when not in use and transverse adjustment of the nozzle with respect to the vehicle. On the longitudinal chassis frame member 10 Fig. 1 of the vehicle is adjustably mounted a shaft 13 supporting the nozzle mounting, which includes four pairs of links 18, supporting a bracket 22 which can swing vertically about pivots 6 and 9 under the control of a hydraulic ram 31 attached to the vehicle chassis and horizontally against the action, of a spring (not shown) about pivots. 7 and 19. The nozzle assembly support pin 27 is pivoted at 25 to the bracket and. engages an arm 29, Figs. 4, and 5, on the nozzle assembly which comprises a nozzle supported on wheels 43, 50. The front and rear edges of the nozzle are provided with channels 52, 51 in which are attachably mounted resilient strips 53, 54.. The position of the front of the nozzle with respect to the ground can be adjusted by a screw 46. Two modifications of the nozzle, for leaf collection and for increasing the velocity of the air entering the nozzle are indicated in Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown).
