Abstract

967,538. Joint-making packing. B. F. GOODRICH CO. July 16, 1963 [Sept. 13, 1962], No. 28135/63. Heading F2B. Sealing means between two parts e.g. pressure plates 10, 12, having opposed sealing fans 20, 21 comprises a sealing ring 15 of resilient material which is of concavo-convex cross-section and, during assembly, is compressed axially between the fans 20, 21 to an extent determined by spacer means, e.g. ring 16, between the faces, the convex side of the ring facing the fluid pressure to be sealed. The ring 15 may be of stainless steel and the sealing edges 23, 24 of the ring or the fans 20, 21 may be coated with tin, copper or silver. The ring may be of circular or non-circular shape. In the modification shown in Fig. 6, pressure plates 33, 34 are separated by a spacer plate 35 and sealed by inner and outer concentric sealing-rings 30 and 31, respectively.
