[Also in Divisions E2 and G4] A receptacle for holding the cash from a cash register releases a key, which is used to operate the cash register to print on a slip the grand total standing in the accumulator only when the receptacle is locked. In a first embodiment, the key 1 is retained in slotted brackets 8, 9 by means of a stud on the bolt 11 (Figs. 1, 3, 5). The action of a supervisor in turning a lock 6 by means of a key 25 carries the noses 17, 23 of two bell-cranks 18, 22, connected by a spring 20 and a stud 21 on bell-crank 18 bearing on one arm of bell-crank 22, away from notches 14 to 16 in bolt 11 freeing it so that stud 10 can be moved to retain key 1 in the brackets 8, 9. When key 25 is withdrawn nose 17 engages notch 16 and nose 23, notch 14. When the cash has been transferred, the keeper is swung anticlockwise, locking the cashbag, releasing nose 23 and causing nose 17 to engage notch 15. The key 1 can now be removed and used to operate the cash register. Beneath the key location is an orifice 26 into which the printed total slip is to be inserted. The key 1 is then replaced in the brackets 8, 9 and the keeper extracted slightly. The bellcranks 18, 22 then both engage the central notch 16 positively, locking the keeper in a position in which both the cash receptacle and the key 2 are -locked. In another embodiment, Fig. 10 (not shown), a straight bolt is operated by a rack successively to unlock and lock compartments, one of which receives the key 1, on each side of the lock mechanism, in the final position locking both compartments. In Fig. 11 (not shown), a straight bolt is linked to another bolt operating in a parallel direction to lock compartments of a handbag or the sliders of a pair of sliding clasp fasteners. In a final embodiment two compartments 47, 48 are closed by a single sliding lid 46, studs 60 engaging slots in side flanges of the lid and limiting so that both compartments are not uncovered at the same time. When the key compartment 47 is uncovered a spring cylinder lock is released which prevents the cash compartment being uncovered thereafter. When the key and cash slip are returned to the compartment 47, the lid 46 is secured by engagement of a flange 61 with a spring catch 63 on the lock cylinders (Fig. 18). The lock (Fig. 13) has a cylinder 51 which can be depressed into its casing against a spring (not shown) when a key 50 is inserted so that the surfaces of contact of pairs of pin tumblers 53 are aligned with the boundary of the cylinder and its casing. The lock is kept depressed by the lid until compartment 47 has to be uncovered. The lower part of the casing 52 has a sprung wall so that the key can be removed.
