Abstract

966,294. Coiling textile slivers. JAMES MACKIE & SONS Ltd. March 27,1961 [April 5, 1960], No. 12019/60. Heading D1F. Apparatus for coiling textile slivers into a generally cylindrical pile 11 comprises a rotary base-plate 7, a guide 15 for shaping and supporting the pile 11 and a ram 16 operable to doff the pile 11 from the plate 7. Sliver 1 passes from a faller bed 4 through drafting rollers 2, 3 and delivery rollers 5, 6 and descends on to the rotating plate 7 which has a roughened surface in a diamond pattern. The guide 15 is semi-circular in cross-section and has two apertures 25 to enable parallel rods 16 constituting the ram to pass therethrough. The rods 16 are spaced apart by a distance approximately equal to the radius of the plate 7. A valve 26 (not shown) operates a pneumatic or hydraulic cylinder 19 which actuates the rods until an adjustable bolt 29 on a cross head 22 engages a valve on a guide 17 to switch the pressure fluid from the rear to the front end of the cylinder 19 and retract the rods 16.
