Abstract

964,036. Rolling; shearing. MORGAN CONSTRUCTION CO. Oct. 25, 1961 [Feb. 1, 1961], No. 38209/61. Headings B3M and B3W. Apparatus for directing a rolled product into a first passage of a guide comprises a flying shear having opposed engaging blades, and means for reversing the positions of the first passage and a second guide passage. In operation a rolled bar 56 from an exit guide 11 is sheared by blades 32 and 33 of a flying shear the lower blade 33 lifting the following bar 56a into a guide 54 leading to a first passage 48. While the product is passing through the passage a pneumatic cylinder arrangement 61, Fig. 2, rotates the passages 48 and 49 of the guide through 180 degrees by means of a rack 59 and pinion 58 so that the upper passage, now 49 is ready for the next product. The product passes along pipes 12, 13 and 14, the pipes 12 having their entry ends aligned with the movable passages 48 and 49, the discharge ends of the two pipes 13 being vertically movable to direct the product either to waste or to the pipes 14, and the ends of the latter pipes also being movable vertically to direct the product to any of coilers 25-28, through cooler 21-24. A photo-electric cell 67, Fig. 1, mates the arrival of the front end of a rod and puts into operation a counter or timer to activate the shear to produce suitable lengths of rod.
