Abstract
963,801. Mechanical switches without quick action. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 18, 1963, No. 6467/63. Heading H2B. A switch for connecting a coaxial socket 5 to any selected one of six coaxial sockets 4 is arranged to terminate each of the remaining five sockets 4 by a resistor 13 matching the characteristic impedance of transmission lines connected to the switch. The sockets 4 and 5 are mounted on metallic bodies 1 and 2, respectively, and a third metallic body 3 is arranged to be rotatable therebetween. Screws 7 in body 2 engage in a groove 8 in body 3, and a screw 6 secured in body 3 is journalled in body 1. Body 3 has a conductor 10 supported by insulators 11 in an angled bore, as shown, such that it interconnects the spring-loaded plunger 18 of socket 5 with a similar plunger of a socket 4 selected by rotation of body 3 by means of six capstan arms 9 (only one being shown). Five resistors 13 are mounted by insulators 11 and metallic inserts 15 so as to connect with respective remaining sockets 4. The switch may be mounted by clamping bodies 1 and 2 in suitable cradles (not shown) or bodies 1 and 2 may comprise the " jaws " of a single structure. Auxiliary switches may be operated by rotation of the body 3, for example, screw 6 may be extended to form a spindle of one or more wafer switches.
